The Oforikrom Municipal Assembly has begun a clean-up exercise along the Tech Junction–Top-hill stretch, in response to a call by KNUST Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, for a major transformation of the area.
Led by the newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Anwel Sadat Ahmed, the early morning exercise saw community members, assembly staff, and volunteers engage in roadside sweeping, de-silting of drains, and removal of waste materials from the area, an important gateway to both KNUST and Kumasi.
The Municipal Chief Executive hinted that this clean-up marks just the beginning, with more sustained beautification and maintenance efforts.
The activity forms part of a broader collaborative effort between KNUST and the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly to enhance the aesthetic and environmental quality of Tech Junction, reflecting the vision of Kumasi as the Garden City and positioning the area as a more welcoming gateway to the university.
During the MCE’s recent courtesy visit to the university, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that Tech Junction must “reflect the image of KNUST and the beauty of Kumasi,” calling for closer collaboration with city authorities.
The MCE pledged his commitment to a joint beautification and redevelopment agenda.
Dr. Kwesi Atta Snr. Aidoo of KNUST’s Department of Crop Science, who also participated in the earlier engagement, noted that such collaborations are key to maintaining strong town-and-gown relations for mutual development.
